🌊 Riding the Waves of Life at our Ecolodge in Mexico

Have you noticed that life comes in waves?

Some are gentle and playful. Some knock us off balance. Some carry us farther than we ever imagined.

Living near the ocean is a constant reminder of this rhythm. Here at our ecolodge in Mexico, the days unfold alongside the tides. One moment the water is glassy and calm, the next it’s alive with rolling swell. Over time, we’ve realized that the secret isn’t controlling the waves — it’s learning how to ride them.

Have You Ever Tried Surfing?

You paddle.

You wait.

You fall.

You try again.

And then, for a few seconds, everything aligns.

The wave lifts you and carries you forward for a blissful ride.

There’s a beautiful honesty to surfing — especially in the beginning. You fall. A lot. You miss waves. You get tumbled. And slowly, something starts to click.

In her New York Times article “It’s Great to Suck at Something,” Karen Rinaldi shares her experience learning to surf — a reminder that the joy lives not in perfection, but in the willingness to try, to be a beginner, to laugh, to ride the waves, and to keep going.

A pretty great mantra — for the waves and for life.

Surfing and Slowing Down at an Ecolodge in Mexico

Surfing teaches patience, humility, and joy all at once — which is why it’s such a natural part of the experience for many guests staying at our ecolodge Mexico retreat. Even guests who have never surfed before often decide to try a lesson during their stay. The local surf instructors are wonderful teachers, and the nearby breaks offer waves for all levels. We’re always happy to point you in the right direction — and sometimes we may even join you in the water.

There’s something incredibly joyful about that first ride. A little wobbly, a little wild, and full of laughter.

What Will the Waves Teach You?

We don’t get to choose which waves come our way. But with a little balance, a deep breath, and the willingness to keep paddling, sometimes we find ourselves riding something beautiful. And when that happens — even for a few seconds — it feels like pure joy.

What will the waves of life teach you next?
