Our 10 Favorite Ways to Explore in San Pancho

When was the last time you did something simply because it made you smile? Not because it was productive. Not because it checked a box on your to-do list. Just because it was fun.

One of our favorite things about welcoming guests to the Tailwind Jungle Lodge is watching them rediscover their playful side. Somewhere between the jungle trails, surfboards, hammocks, and sunsets, adults begin to see the world a little differently. They slow down. They laugh more. They leave their phones behind. They become curious again.

It's okay to let your to do list blow away in the breeze sometimes. Really! Give your permission to just play. A few months from now when you look back on how you've spent your time what will you remember more, the work you got done? Or the precious moments of fun that you had...?

In the spirit of adventure, we thought it would be fun to share our top 10 favorite ways to play in our region of Mexico. Whether you're planning a nature vacation, looking for unique things to do in San Pancho, or simply dreaming about your next jungle adventure, here are a few of our top recommendations for ways to explore and invite the inner child to come out and play.

1. Hike to a Secluded Beach

Follow a jungle trail to one of our favorite hidden beaches. Pack a picnic, marvel at the tropical trees, meet the local wildlife and play in the waves. We have maps for our guests to grab anytime!

2. San Pancho Farmers Market - Live Music & Local Goodies

Live music, fresh food, local artisans, and spontaneous dancing make this a must do every Tuesday in the plaza.

3. Listen for Birds

Instead of trying to lookg and identify every bird by its features, play a different game, listen. Which songs do you hear? Chachalacas? Magpie Jays? Trogons? Let your ears lead the adventure. There are 100s of birds in this jungle.

4. Ride a Wave

Big or small—it doesn't matter. Surfing, body-surfing, boogies boarding, anything goes! Whether you're standing up for the first time or getting tumbled by a gentle wave, it's all fun and salty!

5. Explore the Tide Pools in Lo de Marcos

Tiny fish, hermit crabs, shells, and endless surprises. At low tide, it's like a living treasure hunt for curious explorers of every age. Lo De Marcos is a charming community just north of San Pancho (well worth a visit beyond the tide pools :).

6. Go Sailing (the Whales May Join You!)

There are few experiences more magical than splashing across Banderas Bay under sail. During whale season, keep your eyes on the horizon—you never know who might surface beside the boat.

7. Turn a Jungle Hike into a Treasure Hunt

Our favorite loop trail becomes even more fun when you turn it into a game. Spot butterflies, giant leaves, colorful fungi, animal tracks, unusual seed pods, or your favorite tropical flower. Grab one from us, or create your own Jungle Bingo card before you head out.

8. Play Hopscotch on the Sand

Who says hopscotch belongs on sidewalks? Barefoot, with the waves washing in and out, it's just as much fun at six years old as it is at sixty.

9. Ultimate Ice Cream and Taco Taste Test as You Explore San Pancho

There are plenty of delicious frozen treats and tasty tacos around San Pancho. Your mission: sample as many as possible.

10. Do Absolutely Nothing

Stretch out in a hammock. Watch butterflies drift past. Listen to the jungle. Breathe deeply. Read a book. Sometimes the greatest adventure is simply giving yourself permission to slow down.

The Best Adventures Aren't Always the Biggest
