10 Tips for Listening to Your Body: A Gift from Retreat Leaders at Our Ecolodge in Mexico

When was the last time you truly listened to your body? Not just when it was tired, hungry, or asking for another cup of coffee, but really listened? Our bodies are constantly communicating with us through breath, movement, sensation, and subtle shifts in energy. Yet in the rush of everyday life, how often do we pause long enough to pay attention?
As we approach a new year, perhaps it's time to try something different. Rather than making another long list of things we'd like to change about ourselves, what if we simply started by listening?
This January 13–18, we're welcoming the team behind The Living Body to the Tailwind Jungle Lodge for The Shapeshifting Body, a movement and wellness retreat at our ecolodge in San Pancho, Mexico. The retreat explores our connection to our bodies and the natural world through movement, breath, sound, and curiosity. And the wonderful thing is, you don't have to wait until January (or travel anywhere) to get started!
Our retreat leaders have shared a simple invitation to gift yourself a delicious moment of pause.
So pour yourself a favorite warm beverage, settle into a comfortable spot, and give these ten little explorations a try.
10 Simple Ways to Listen to Your Body
1. Gift Yourself a Moment of Pause
Before doing anything else, simply stop for a moment. Wherever you are, whatever you're doing, give yourself permission to pause. Imagine sipping your favorite warm beverage from your favorite cup, perhaps somewhere beautiful overlooking the sea. There's nowhere else you need to be right now.

2. Notice Your Breath
How are you breathing? Is your breath shallow, deep, quick, or slow? Without forcing anything, explore whether you can allow your breath to travel a little deeper into your belly and along your spine. Notice how your body responds.
3. Check In With Your Posture
How are you sitting or standing? Could you gently roll your shoulders back, lengthen your spine, or shift your position? Let yourself move a little rather than holding one posture. Even the smallest movement can become an opportunity to reconnect.
4. Feel the Earth Supporting You 🌿
Notice your feet on the floor, the chair beneath you, and the weight of your body meeting the ground. Could you give just 5% more of your weight to that support? Imagine your feet connecting with the earth, as though they're part of the natural world beneath you. What happens when you allow yourself to be supported?
5. Give Your Hips a Little Dance
Your pelvis doesn't have to stay perfectly still! Gently rock or roll your hips, exploring whatever movement feels comfortable. There doesn't need to be a right way to move. Simply notice the sensations that appear as you give your body a little freedom.
6. Relax Your Jaw
How is your jaw feeling right now? Relaxed? Tense? Somewhere in between? Gently soften your jaw and notice what changes. You might even become aware of tension you didn't realize you were holding.
7. Savor a Simple Sensation
Try swallowing gently and paying attention to the experience, almost as though you're savoring a favorite treat. Notice the movement of your tongue, jaw, and throat. It's amazing how much is happening within our bodies, even during the simplest everyday actions.
8. Give Your Hands Some Love
Bring your hands together and gently massage them, rubbing your palms to create warmth. Notice their texture, temperature, and sensations. These hands do so much for us every day. Take a moment to appreciate them.
9. Connect With Your Heart and Belly
Place one hand over your heart and the other on your belly. Or try one hand at the back of your neck and the other on your head. Breathe naturally and notice what you feel beneath your hands. There's nothing to fix or accomplish, just an opportunity to be present with yourself.
10. Listen With Kindness and Compassion ❤️
As you finish this little exploration, ask yourself: Right here, right now, what is my body trying to tell me? Perhaps it's asking for rest, movement, a deeper breath, or simply a little more attention. Whatever you notice, can you meet it with curiosity, kindness, and compassion? Remember, there's no right or wrong answer. The invitation is simply to listen.

The Art of Becoming: A Wellness Retreat at our Ecolodge in Mexico
These simple explorations offer a little taste of the philosophy behind The Shapeshifting Body, a January retreat at Tailwind Jungle Lodge. Through somatic exploration, we become curious about the body's remarkable capacity for change. We move between different qualities and states—sometimes grounded and still, sometimes fluid and moving. We can turn inward, reach outward, rest, express ourselves, and begin again.
The retreat leaders call this "the art of becoming." Not necessarily changing who we are, but reconnecting with who we already are. And what better place to explore this connection than surrounded by nature? At our jungle ecolodge in Mexico, the landscape itself becomes part of the experience. The earth offers grounding and support. The ocean invites fluidity and change. The warmth of the sun brings energy and vitality. The breeze moving through the trees reminds us to breathe.
Throughout the retreat, participants will explore Continuum, intuitive movement, meditation, dance, sound, and music, with plenty of time for delicious food, spacious afternoons, quiet moments, and time by the nearby Pacific Ocean.
The intention isn't to fill every moment with activity, but to create space to explore, play, rest, and find your own rhythm.
Go deep when you want to. Keep it light when you want to.
An Invitation to Reconnect
Perhaps the new year doesn't have to be about becoming someone new. Maybe it's simply an opportunity to slow down, listen, and reconnect with who we already are.
And the best part? You can return to these ten little practices anytime, anywhere. Even just a few moments of awareness can be a delicious gift to yourself.

The more relaxing and natural environments that people can enjoy, the more they'll seek them out. I also appreciate the emphasis on cultivating a valuable experience and not just providing a place to stay. In addition to that, it's important that you know how to prepare for the future of any successful business. If you're about to start in the transportation industry, trucking business plan writing can be the first step toward calculating operations costs and identifying marketing targets.
